About Kinderling

Our Approach

At Kinderling respect for all children is the foundation of our practice. How people are treated as children impacts how they see themselves and others throughout their lives. We are dedicated to providing a kind and nurturing environment to all children at our setting where we are present and conscious to their needs and include them in their care.

Play is a vital part of childhood and we focus on creating an environment that allows children to have the freedom to fall into joyful uninterrupted play. Our approach offers the opportunity and time that allows for children to immerse themselves in the world around them, trusting they are innately competent to discover and master the skills they need in their own time.

Our small numbers mean that every child feels a strong sense of belonging in the group.

Meet the Team

Kindërling was co-founded by husband-and-wife team Bobby and Olivia Federici, inspired by their shared belief that early childhood should be full of wonder, connection and real-world experiences. Together, they built Kindërling as a place where children could feel truly at home — nurtured by caring adults and surrounded by opportunities to explore, create and grow.

Bobby is a qualified Early Years Teacher with over 10 years of leadership experience in Nursery Schools across St Albans and the surrounding areas. He is the registered childminder at Kindërling.

Early Years care has been part of Bobby’s life since childhood. Having grown up above his parents’ nursery school in St Albans, he joined the family business in 2014 and has since supported hundreds of children and families, as well as training practitioners in best practice.

Respect lies at the heart of Bobby’s Early Years philosophy. He believes deeply in trusting children as capable learners and strives to balance gentle guidance with the freedom for children to learn through their own experiences. Above all, he is passionate about ensuring that childhood is fun, free, and full of adventure.

As a father of three, Bobby understands first-hand the pressures and joys of parenting. He is dedicated to supporting families through their early years journey, empowering them with the knowledge, confidence and skills to help their children thrive at home and beyond.

The Rhythm of Our Day

No two days are the same, but we know that children thrive with consistency and routine. Below is an example of how our days is mapped out.

Breakfast

8.00

Children arrive from 8am and join us for nutritious start to their day.

Welcome circle

9.00

We begin the day by catching up with our friends and making plans for the day ahead. Children have time to share their news and their ideas with the group.

Morning Outing

9.15

We are blessed to have the beautiful Wheathampsted countryside on our doorstep. We have our allotment, ancient woodlands, and the River Lea within walking distance from our setting. We also embrace our village community with weekly trips to the library and several local parks.

Snack

10.15

Morning snack includes a delicious mix of seasonal produce (often from our allotment).

Lunch.

11.30

The children eat a freshly cooked and balanced two course meal, following the Early Years Guidelines approved by the Department of Education and Public Health England. We collaborate with families to provide options for allergies, intolerances, and cultural preferences.

Siesta/Children's Choice

13.00

Our younger children will nap in the cosy library.

Older children have the choice for what they wish to do in the afternoon. It could be baking in the kitchen, working together building dens in the garden or continuing on a Lego build they had begun earlier in the week. We place great importance on allowing children to develop and pursue their interests and directing their own learning.

Snack

14.15

Afternoon snack includes a delicious mix of seasonal produce (often from our allotment).

Tea

16.00

Shared meals are an important time for your child to gather together and share their ideas and experiences with their peers, whilst enjoying freshly prepared nutritious food.

End of the day

17.00

Children share the stories of their day with their parents.
