Looking for a nursery or childcare in Wheathampstead? Kindërling offers small-group childcare for children aged 18 months and over, combining the experience and opportunities of a high-quality nursery with the warmth, personal attention and flexibility of home-based childcare.
With a purpose-built nursery cabin, our own allotment and daily adventures in nature, children have the space to play, explore, learn and grow in a calm, nurturing environment.
Choosing childcare is about finding the right environment for your child and the right fit for your family. Some families are looking for a traditional nursery or pre-school, while others prefer the smaller, more personal feel of a childminder.
Kindërling brings elements of both. We offer the experiences, learning opportunities and professional approach you would expect from a high-quality nursery, within the warmth and personal attention of a home-based setting.
Our small-group environment means children are known as individuals, with time to build secure relationships, develop their confidence and follow their own interests. At the same time, they have plenty of opportunities to learn, play and develop alongside their friends.

Starting childcare is a big step for any child. For some children, settling into a larger or busier environment can feel overwhelming, particularly when there are lots of new faces, unfamiliar routines and a busy atmosphere around them.
Many children who join Kindërling have previously found it difficult to settle in another nursery or childcare setting. Our small-group approach gives these children the time, space and individual attention they need to feel secure.
Children get to know a familiar group of children and adults, while our calm environment and consistent routines help them understand what to expect each day. We take the time to understand each child, build their trust and follow their individual needs, rather than expecting every child to settle in exactly the same way.
We have an excellent track record of helping children settle smoothly into Kindërling. For many families, seeing their child become happy, confident and excited to come through the door is one of the most rewarding parts of their Kindërling experience.
But don't just take our word for it — here's what our parents have to say about their child's experience at Kindërling.

At Kindërling, children learn about the world by experiencing it for themselves. Our purpose-built nursery cabin provides a calm, welcoming space for play, creativity and discovery, while our garden, allotment and local surroundings give children plenty of opportunities to learn outdoors.
Every day brings something new to discover. Children can grow and harvest food in our allotment, care for our chickens, explore local woodlands and fields, get muddy, investigate nature and follow their own interests through play.
These experiences aren't simply activities to fill the day. They give children meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, independence, curiosity and a growing understanding of the world around them.
With a small group and experienced adults around them, children have the time and freedom to get involved, ask questions, solve problems and discover things for themselves.
We know that finding the right childcare is about more than choosing a setting you like. It also needs to work around your family's needs and daily life.
Based in Wheathampstead, Kindërling provides childcare for children from 18 months onwards, Monday to Thursday, 8am–5pm, for up to 50 weeks of the year. Families can also choose term-time-only attendance if that suits them better.

Strong standard in behaviour, wellbeing and curriculum
Choosing childcare is a big decision, and it helps to know that your child's care and learning are being independently assessed.
At its latest inspection in July 2026, Kindërling was recognised as providing a strong standard in behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines, children's welfare and wellbeing, and curriculum and teaching.
The inspection highlighted our calm and respectful environment, warm relationships between children and adults, and the opportunities children have to develop confidence, curiosity and independence through real experiences.
